There is something special about swimming out in the fresh air. It gives you a true sense of freedom and to feel completely at one with nature. Here in Enniscrone, we are lucky to be surrounded by swimming spots, both indoors and outdoors and some of the most spectacular scenery you could hope for. So, whether you prefer swimming in the wild Atlantic Ocean or prefer the safety of a swimming pool, Enniscrone – Co. Sligo has something for you

Enniscrone Beach & Pier:

Enniscrone beach is a huge part of our community. Not only it is a place to enjoy the scenery, it’s also a great place to take a refreshing dip in the ocean to clear your head. The beautiful blue flag beach is one of the safest and tidiest beaches along Irelands Wild Atlantic Way and stretches for an amazing 5km. During a period of high tide, the deep water and the shelter from the waves make the pier a great place to jump in feet first, practise your diving skills or do some amazing cannonballs. If that’s not your cup of tea, you can wait on the sandy beach or dip your feet in while your friends or children swim.

Atlantic Ocean:

There is something very special about swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. While there are other ‘island’ countries close to us, Enniscrone is one of the few parts of the world with a coastline leading directly to this unbridled beauty. While it won’t exactly be a leisurely sea swim - if you like swimming in the choppy ocean, a swim in the sea is ideal. You’ll definitely find more surfers than swimmers in this part of the ocean and it’s a recommended activity while you’re here. Take a class with 7th Wave as a beginner and you’ll leave with a new appreciation for the sport.

Seaweed Baths:

If you like the idea of being in the sea but don’t want to face the cold, depth or fear of the unknown, you can always take advantage of the closeby seaweed baths offered by Kilkcullen Seaweed Bath House. They use seawater and seaweed harvested directly from the ocean, combine it with essential oils and heat it to a temperature to suit you. Seaweed baths are one of the oldest forms of relaxation and its therapeutic properties have been proven for centuries. While it’s not exactly swimming, its a luxurious alternative while still benefitting from the power of the ocean.

Waterpoint:

If you want to enjoy a swim but would prefer a tamer option than the Atlantic Ocean, pay a visit to Waterpoint Aqua Park. Waterpoint is a unique fusion of water park, health suite and sports centre and is lots of fun for all ages. They offer swimming lessons for both adults and children, a 65m waterslide, fantastic kiddies fun pool, adult health suite and a brand new and improved fitness gym so there is something for everyone. Waterpoint is less than a 10-minute walk from Ocean Sands Hotel and an ideal place to spend a rainy afternoon.
